Finally these crazy guys have come out with a new album. It's been a long 5 years since Oh No.

So I did not enjoy this new album AT FIRST. But after giving it a decent chance, I have grown to really enjoy it. It is more mature. More thoughtful. And still has that sound that makes you want to jump up and dance until you're sweaty like a pig.

The specific songs that I think are superb are: This Too Shall Pass, WTF?, Back From Kathmandu, Before The Earth Was Round, Skyscrapers, and the two slow songs, While You Were Asleep and Last Leaf.

This Too Shall Pass is the obvious hit single off this album. It is more the old Ok Go's style than any of the other songs. And it's an amazing song.
WTF?- This song requires a specific mood. One in that I should not be driving. I can't figure out what the song is about, but who cares. Let's dance!
Back from Kathmandu- This little treat of a song reminds me of the old Ok Go guys, but making more sense. No spider friends. Just crazy dreams.
Before the Earth was Round- This is my favorite I think. It is a soothing robot that makes me feel sad, but hopeful for the future. It also reminds me of The Flaming Lips.
Skyscrapers- This song made me smile because I love it when a band progresses. Ok Go is showing their fans and their critics that they can change their sound. They can improve while still holding firm to their style.
While You Were Asleep- This song is a strange relative several branches down the tree to Because by The Beatles. Sure, criticize me, but I can hear it!
Last Leaf- A sweet, simple song about Autumn leaves. Every good album needs a stripped down song like this.

2010 Academy Awards

Congrats Hurt Locker! Quite the haul.
Avatar didn't do as well as I expected.
Best Actor and Actress Awards were typical but deserving.
UP didn't deserve Best Animated Feature (Although it did deserve Original Score. Up or Sherlock Holmes deserved it.) I thought Coraline, Fantastic Mr. Fox and The Princess and the Frog (I didn't see the other one) were all better than UP.
The hosts (Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin) weren't as funny as I expected them to be either. I didn't think they did anything funny past the intro. monologue, and that was not even that funny. It's a shame, too. Because those guys are very talented and funny.
Robert Downey Jr.'s bit was the funniest I thought.
It was a blast to watch, as usual, but disappointing when compared with past years.

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland

I thought AW was amazing!

AW was a wonderful extension to an already beloved story. Tim Burton had a huge task in meeting expectations from many different angles-- being accurate from the short story, not following too closely from the Disney version, incorporating big name stars into small roles, (because let's face it, the only major role in the story is Alice. Everyone else has supporting roles.), etc.

Overall, this is an A plus movie. I smiled and laughed throughout the whole thing. Criticisms will be found because if you look harder enough, you will always find something to complain about. Personally, Burton fulfilled my expectations with this wonderful movie.

Long live Tim Burton!

BTW- I'm not particularly a fan of pop music and I can't name a 1/4 of the bands/groups in this song, but it's soooooo good mashed together.

I am a sucker for anything 8-bit. I blame Nintendo for this (I also blame them for my superior hand-eye coordination). Over the past couple of years there has been a revival of this pixelated style in art, music, and web design. One of my favorite contributors is Craig Robinson, specifically his Minipops. This is an ever-growing collection minute pop culture figures. It started out just online but then moved into book form and most recently as an iPhone app. Just a heads up, he's from England so a lot of these are English pop icons but most of them are recognizable to our USA minds.

The internet is a great way to expand our mind and our understanding of this world. I have learned things that I didn't even know I needed to! This website has helped me in much of my studies and grasp on reality: Wookieepedia. I got so sick of the original with its easy to read english and its enlightening articles. I wanted something more, something I could really sink my teeth into. This website delivers that.
